Disgraceful Scenes as Shakib al Hasan Violently Erupts at Umpire’s Decision.

Whilst playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Abahani Limited, Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib al Hasan threw a toddler-like tantrum during a Dhaka Premier League match after an lbw decision went against him.

Hasan, captain of Mohammedan, forcefully kicked the stumps at the non-strikers end before shouting in the face of the standing umpire. His poor behaviour continued 5.5 overs into the second innings. As a rain delay was called and players began leaving the field Hasan returned to confront the umpire, this time ripping all three stumps out of the ground before throwing them at the ground. He then clashed in a war of words with Abahani coach Khaled Mahmud, a member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The match resumed and Mohammedan went on to complete victory, being well ahead of the DLS equation.

Footage circling social media shows the disgusting scene unfold with many commenting their distaste at the spectacle.

Shortly after the match, Hasan took to his social media platforms to apologise for his outburst, writing: “I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens unfortunately. I apologise to the teams, management, tournament officials and organising committee for this human error.”

Post-match, Chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, Kazi Inam Ahmed, termed the incident as “unfortunate” and said he expected the umpires report to be submitted by the end of Friday. A decision on what action will be taken is likely to be made soon after.

What happens next remains to be seen, but it is crucial that this kind of behaviour is not witnessed on a cricket pitch again. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a suspension or ban for Hasan but we will have to wait and see.
